Quantum News & Press Information

Munich High-End Show 2009

Quantum QRT products will be on active demonstration at the Munich High-End Show, in the capable hands of international distributor Nordost. Not only will you be able to hear the significant musical effect of the established Qx2 and Qx4 units, used singly or in multiple arrays, but the Munich Show marks the world debut for the new QBASE distribution system, the foundation stone on which you can build a solid, high-quality AC supply for your system.

You can find more details about QBASE in the Products section of the site, but to hear and see it in the flesh you’ll need to be at the MOC. There you’ll be able to appreciate its substantial casework, mechanically tuned and based on the solid structure that surrounds the Qx designs. Its neat, slim-line styling makes it easy to accommodate while the sophisticated internal grounding arrangement ensures the best possible sound from your equipment. The end result is a deceptively simple, straight-line distribution system that sets new standards through sound engineering and without resorting to questionable gimmicks or interfering with the AC supply impedance. Listen for yourself and you’ll be surprised what an “extension lead” can do.

New Measurement Initiative Bears First Fruit…

In an unprecedented move for the hi-fi industry, Quantum QRT and Nordost Corporation have joined forces with Vertex AQ and defense contractor Acuity Products to develop a new measurement strategy.

For years we have been constantly confronted by readily audible and repeatable sonic effects that aren’t reflected in conventional measurements. One conclusion – a surprisingly common one – is that we are deluding ourselves: The other is that the measurements being taken, the methodology, technology and protocols applied, are inadequate. Once you’ve heard the scale of difference that cables, supports and AC quality can make to a system, the conclusion has to be the latter. With that in mind, we set out to develop an entirely new approach to audio measurement – one that was both rigorous AND reflected what we were hearing.

Having taken the decision to pursue a solution, it was the association with Acuity Products that made the resulting breakthrough possible. Their extensive experience with sonar systems, radar and signal processing algorithms allowed them to take a completely fresh, signal based view on audio performance. The results have been astonishing and are discussed more fully in the Measurements section of this site, but prove not just how effective Quantum is, but why it sounds the way it does. So far we have posted only the first set of Quantum results, showing the impact of a Qx4 on a CD player, but we have additional data that will be uploaded over the next few weeks. It makes fascinating reading.

Our work with Acuity and Vertex AQ is advancing at a totally unanticipated pace and as it is further refined, the results become more and more clear, more and more significant. But perhaps most importantly of all, these techniques can be applied universally, to systems as a whole and individual aspectsin particular. For the first time we are able to show just why supports and cables make so much difference; why set-up has such a dramatic effect on performance, and why systems sound so different from each other. The science of audio will never be the same again; the measurement of audio equipment is being dragged kicking and screaming out of the 19th Century and dumped, unceremoniously and very firmly in the 21st. duct
